These school buildings in Buckinghamshire are Grade II Listed. We were asked to control the dampness in a barn converted to classroom space. All walls were heavily affected by hygroscopic salts from rising dampness and contaminated with salts from animal waste due to its previous life as a barn.
We installed a full height cavity drain membrane to act as a physical barrier to the salts and dampness whilst creating a 3mm void which allowed the walls to dry. The system is fully reversible complying with the needs of the conservation officer.
