The Red Lyon, an 18th Century pub located on a prime roadside position in Berkshire was treated to a complete make-over to the very highest specification. Stonehouse was approached to waterproof the newly excavated basement and provide a method of damp proofing to both original brick walls and the ground floor, linking old to new.

Problems were caused to the fabric of the building by rising dampness and varying external ground levels. The original brickwork and lime mortar was soft and friable – we selected a meshed Newton 503 membrane fixed to the walls and a continuous DPM across the floor using Newton 508 which we could link to the wall membrane. Laying our membrane across the various make-ups of floor slab, allowed one continuous durable vapour barrier. All walls were dot and dabbed with insulated plasterboard.
