Oxford & Cambridge University Colleges

Stonehouse has worked on numerous colleges at both Oxford and Cambridge. Each project has been unusual from accommodation, kitchens and libraries to newbuild basements. Here is just one example of how we relish the opportunity of preserving and protecting the country’s most treasured seats of learning.

Brasenose College, University of Oxford

Founded in 1509, Grade I Listed, Brasenose College is positioned at the heart of Oxford next to the world-renowned Bodleian Library and Radcliffe Camera. The project was to upgrade the kitchen area and silver store to create additional space for kitchen and function space.

Having already completed works to several University-owned buildings, Stonehouse were invited to work closely with architects to design a waterproofing solution that would satisfy both the client and the conservation officer.

We specified a Type C cavity drain membrane system which drained to a Titan Pro sump chamber with 2 pumps and a full battery back-up system. This membrane was finished with a mesh which allowed direct plastering following the original stone wall contours.
