Diagnosis
Shirburn Castle is a Grade I Listed property built in 1377 near Watlington, Oxfordshire. It is an atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful building frequently used as a setting in contemporary film making.
Unloved and neglected for many years, Shirburn is now being gently restored with a priority to renew the lead roofs. The original leaking roof has given rise to outbreaks of infestation in vulnerable areas of roof space and floors below.
Solution
As the damp wall fabric will take several years to dry, Stonehouse has carried out localised targeted timber treatment work against active Death Watch Beetle and Common Furniture Beetle in roof, lintel and flooring timbers to control the infestation.
