We were invited to get involved in the project to link two Grade II* townhouses, now used as offices in one of the few remaining Georgian terraces in London. The rear annex of each property was of poor, bomb-damaged quality and there was an urgent requirement for additional space. Architects proposed a new contemporary link-building across the rear yards.
We were asked to propose and install a sympathetic waterproofing system to the whole basement including an original ‘silver vault’ with a heavy steel security door and surrounding earth-retaining damp walls. We used a meshed Newton 508 cavity drain membrane system to the arched walls, ceiling and floor draining water from the upper office levels into the vault where our sump chamber was located. The beautiful copper roof allows light to stream downwards, illuminating the basement working environment.
