STRATFORD-ON-AVON

The World beneath our feet!
We were delighted to install a targeted Type C Waterproofing System to the earth-retaining cellar walls of this prominent and historic Grade 2* Listed corner property.
The cellar, originally the town gaol was from 1470 known as ‘The Cage’. For at least 20 subsequent years, the property was home to William Shakespeare’s daughter, Judith.
The cellar reveals unique plasterwork, completed in the 1920s by apprentices of The Stratford-upon-Avon Guild of Plasterers who used the room as a meeting place.
The least intrusive waterproofing system was required. We selected the Newton Type C cavity drain membrane system with a channel laid into the existing concrete floor construction. This is fully-reversible, if required, and now forms a usable, dry, ventilated and invaluable added storage area for the retail space above.
