It was a great privilege to work on this prestigious Grade II* hotel which had been closed for many years and on the English Heritage Priority Heritage at Risk List. The building had been under scaffold for 15 years and was in a poor state due to a combination of factors including poor maintenance. The 13 under-pavement vaulted areas that Stonehouse were invited to waterproof were part of new retail spaces planned to make the whole building viable once more. 

Within strict conservation guidelines, we installed a reversible Newton cavity drain membrane waterproofing system which drained into existing gullies in the lower basement area. This was a fast-moving building site and our operatives were challenged by complicated detailing and ongoing modifications – the cavity drain system is extremely versatile. We had previously worked with this architectural practice in Oxford.
