Within the centre of Henley-on-Thames, this new-build block of flats with ground floor car parking required an NHBC 10 Year Guarantee.
When inspected at the start of works, the NHBC inspector noted that the lower level was protected from water ingress by a Type B water-resistant concrete. This is acceptable for the car park area (Grade 1 environment) but not for the communal access staircase and lift areas where Grade 3 protection is necessary to comply with BS8102:2009 and the NHBC’s own 2014 standards chapter 5.4. A secondary waterproofing system to these areas is required.
Stonehouse were able to react quickly and proposed a cost-efficient system to fit in with the contractor’s tight schedule. Our proposal was accepted – we applied external Type A waterproofing using Newton Hydrobond to lower areas with an internal Type C cavity drain membrane to the higher risk rear area on this sloping site.
