Structural Waterproofing when Extending Underground
Creating dry and comfortable underground living spaces
When extending upwards or outwards isn’t an option, and moving home is a step too far, extending underground can be the answer. In recent years more and more property owners have turned to extending downwards as a way of creating additional room without compromising on their outside space.
New basements are often formed below existing properties, providing valuable added living space and an alternative to moving home. Stonehouse provides the waterproofing skills and experience to ensure that your new space remains dry. A well designed and constructed basement can create new and amazing living areas for a growing family. Among our large portfolio of works we showcase examples of Edwardian and Victorian properties which demonstrate perfectly the advantages of retrofit works. We’ve seen basement conversions used as games rooms, bedrooms, kitchens and wine cellars.
Stonehouse does not carry out excavation works; we leave the structural work to the builder. We do however act as Waterproofing Design specialists on the design team and then follow on as a specialist sub-contractor, working very closely with architects, structural engineers, main contractors and groundworkers. This ensures the planning of the basement installation runs smoothly and efficiently bearing in mind head heights, drainage, light sources and ventilation. An efficient installation is a cost saving for our clients and is reassurance against the trauma of water ingress into their new living space.
The following case studies include examples of projects where we have assisted in underground extensions in a variety of properties. Please contact us to discover how we can help with your basement extension ambitions.
