The outline basement waterproofing system for this major retail, dual aspect development was designed by Newton Waterproofing working with the architects prior to tender. We were successfully appointed and at this point all final design details were reviewed and agreed.

The client required waterproofing to comply with BS8102:2022, in this case an internal Type A followed by Type C cavity drain membrane system.

Substrates varied across the project from weak original brickwork to new reinforced concrete. We stabilised the brickwork with a smoothing coat of Stonehouse Premix No. 7 with a Liquabond additive. This was followed by a spray application of Newton 107-F to all wall and floor surfaces, providing a continuous fully-bonded barrier to water ingress across all faces.

A Type C Newton 508R cavity drain system was subsequently applied with three sump chambers, each containing two NP400eco sump pumps with battery back-up systems.

The project was managed by Stonehouse’s 3 surveyors and inspected by the Newton technical team at regular intervals for additional client reassurance, ensuring all-party involvement and continuity from first briefing to completion.

The new structure is now home to four major retailers with offices and accommodation above.
